2016 Grand Canyon History Symposium
An Official Centennial Event, as sanctioned by the National Park Service Centennial 2016 Committee!
The Grand Canyon Historical Society held the 4th Grand Canyon History Symposium at the Shrine of the Ages, South Rim, Grand Canyon National Park, on November 4-6, 2016.
Background
Since January 2002, there have been four history symposia, bringing together historians, witnesses to history, park employees, and others with a passion for Grand Canyon history. The presentations from the first three symposiums were assembled into a collection of essays. It is the Grand Canyon Historical Society’s intent to publish the proceedings from the fourth symposium as well.
National Park Service Focus
Upon seeing one of our beautiful National Parks for the first time, many of us dreamed of finding a way to live and work in these places of boundless vistas - places with the delicate natural sounds of insects, birds, flowing water, and occasional silence - places that are steeped in human and natural history. Those dreams have become a reality for people working for the National Park Service whose 100th anniversary will be marked on August 25th of this year. To celebrate that milestone, the Grand Canyon Historical Society sponsored a special, condensed history symposium November 4-6. To see events for this symposium, click on the date of interest below.
